NATIONAL TULIP DAY MAKES FOR A COLOURFUL SPLASH IN AMSTERDAM

The event is usually held on the third Saturday of January and attracts both professional and amateur gardeners as well as hundreds of snap-happy digital content creators every year.

The flower takes its name from Johannes Vermeer’s painting, ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’.

Dutch skater Irene Schouten who is the daughter of top tulip producer, Klaas Schouten, was the special guest on the day. She won the gold medal by breaking the 20-year Olympic record with a time of 3:56.93 in the women’s 3,000m speed skating event at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

National Tulip Day is usually held on the third Saturday of January and attracts both professional and amateur gardeners as well as hundreds of snap-happy digital content creators every year.

“It’s great, it’s a great place to be. A lot of flowers, happy people. Perfect!” said one of the attendees, Jan Willem.

It’s our first time. My friend told me about it, and waiting in line was totally worth it. It’s really nice, we love flowers and what a way to spend a Saturday, right?” said visitors Veronica Manzano and Rosanna Segrettan.

Over the season, Dutch producers grow between 1.7 and 1.9 billion tulips, which are exported to more than 100 countries worldwide.

The nearby Rijksmuseum, or National Museum, will host a Vermeer exhibit opening on Feb. 10, 2023, bringing together 27 of his paintings.

Texel Beaches

The most famous nude beach in the world is about twelve hour drive or two hour flight from the Netherlands. Cap D’Agde is also known as the Capital of Naturism. There’s even an entire village for nudists: Village Naturist.

Also In Croatia you can find the nudes; in Koversada is the largest nudist campsite in Croatia. In sunny Miami is the most famous nude beach in America. Visitors have been very fan of this beach with its clear waters and fine like atmosphere. Hence the beach is also popular with clad beachgoers. A bit further on Baker Beach in San Francisco can sunbathe with impressive views.

The Keukenhof – Holland

An explosion of colour and scent. This is the best way to describe Keukenhof at the moment. The scent of the hyacinths and the vivid colours of the tulips burst through Keukenhof. The mid-season tulips are flowering and the Fritillaria lilies are in full bloom. The mixed flower beds are now at their best.

History of Keukenhof

The history of Keukenhof, the name of meaning “kitchen garden”, goes back to the 15th century. Countess Jacqueline of Bavaria, Jacoba van Beieren (1401-1436) gathered fruit and vegetables from the woods and dunes for the kitchen of Teylingen Castle. Keukenhof Castle was built in 1641, and the estate grew to an area of over 200 hectares.

Landscape architects Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher, who also designed Amsterdam’s Vondelpark, redesigned the castle gardens in 1857. That park, in the English landscape style, still forms the basis of Keukenhof.

In 1949 a group of 20 flower bulb exporters came up with a plan to use the estate for a permanent exhibition of spring-flowering bulbs, signaling the birth of Keukenhof as a spring park. The park opened its gates to the public in 1950 and was an instant success, with 236,000 visitors in the first year alone. In 2016 the 67th edition of Keukenhof is taking place, with the Golden Age as its theme. During the last 66 years Keukenhof has grown into a world-famous attraction.

Netherlands very popular with foreign tourists.

The number of tourists stayed overnight in accommodation establishments in the Netherlands, in 2014 for the fifth consecutive year has increased. The increase was mainly due to foreign tourists. About 14 million people visited the country to spend one or more nights there. That were 8.9 percent more than in 2013. This growth of inbound tourism was the largest of all European countries.

This is evident from the Tuesday Trendreport Tourism, recreation and leisure 2015. The report was drawn up by CBS, leisure organizations NRIT Media, CELTH NBCT Holland and Marketing.

The total came the number of tourists in the Netherlands last year stood at 35.9 million. That represents an increase of 5.3 percent compared to 2013.

Growth Continues
In 2015 continued the growth the number of foreign guests there in hotels, guesthouses, youth hostels, group accommodation and staying at campsites, further. In the first six months of this year there expecting 7.1 percent more foreign visitors than in the same period in 2014.

With 11.3 percent grew the number of German holidaymakers the most of any countries. Together with Belgium (+ 9.3 percent) and the UK (+ 10.5 percent city), these countries accounted for more than half of the foreign tourists who came to the Netherlands.
